Statement of Purpose, Organisation and Objectives

Purpose

The Sailing Software Alliance (SSA) brings together providers of computer software and services for the sailing community, and organisations interested in the use of Information Technology in the sport of sailing.

Members of the Sailing Software Alliance are committed to furthering the sport of sailing through the application of Information Technology. To this end all members of the Sailing Software Alliance commit to comply with the Sailing Software Alliance Code of Conduct.

Organisation

The SSA is under the management of a committee of drawn from the List of Members.

Membership of the SSA is open to providers of computer software and services for the sailing community, and to organisations interested in the use of IT in the sport of sailing, subject to approval of the committee of member representatives.

Objectives

The principal objective of the Sailing Software Alliance is to evolve mutual initiatives to encourage communications and best practise in order that the products and services offered by SSA members are acknowledged as being world class.

Specific objectives include

To provide software and services to the sailing community, fit for purpose and with on-going professional support.

To cooperate by sharing data, with the permission of data owners, in order to offer integrated solutions for clubs and sailors.

To educate by offering training in IT skills and awareness, designed specifically for sailing club officers and event organisers.

To influence sailing's regulatory and governing bodies so that their decisions can be translated accurately and unambiguously into software solutions.

SSA members undertake joint initiatives and share expertise and experience where such cooperation is judged to be beneficial to members and their clients. The autonomy and commercial confidentiality of individual members and their clients is always respected.
